About the piece:
A metropole is the mother city or parent state of a colony. Similar to our flats and skyscrapers, vertical rock formations, cliffs and rocky islands near coastlines provide a home to thousands of seabirds. With this painting I tried to capture the parallels of wildlife with our own way of life.
Rens Hensgens has been inspired by the wild since he was young. He says “now with a degree in Wildlife Management and a job conserving the urban wildlife we find at our doorstep, I continue to be inspired during my daily walks and fieldwork. In this weird time with restrictions I am reminded every day that the wild is everywhere and that their carefreeness helps me to unwind. With my art I try to depict the wild in their environment and how they interact, hopefully inspiring conservation for both.”
