About The Piece
Jasmine says: “like most people I have a love for nature and wildlife that lives on the Planet all around us. I convey my admiration for nature by creating artworks, primarily in the form of drawings. I utilise simple backgrounds in contrast to my detailed illustrations to draw the viewers focus to the beauty and personality of the animal.” Industry Value highlights the plight of the Sun Bears – it has been reported that a bear’s gall bladder can fetch as much as £36,000. It has been reported that a bear’s gall bladder can fetch as much as £36,000. There is a global demand for bear bile products, mainly in Asia. Kept on ‘farms’, caged bears are subject to severe physical and mental distress. Bile stored in gall bladders is forcibly extracted and sold for use in traditional medicine. Sometimes gall bladders are removed entirely. Notably Sun Bears are also being exploited in the commercial trade, likely due to a decrease in population across bear species. The trade industry continues to place value on these animals for their parts when we should instead value their lives.
At least 50% of the proceeds from this sale will support the charitable work of David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation (DSWF) and our ground-based conservation partners across Africa and Asia.
