Idling Eiders

Idling Eiders
Emma Price
About the piece:
Emma Price is an amateur artist, mainly sketching and painting local wildlife in Teesside. ‘Idling Eiders’ was inspired by a walk along the seafront in Hartlepool last July, in which the sea was uncharacteristically calm and flat. She saw a small group of eider ducks floating along the tide and dozing in the heat. They were male birds in the process of moulting their feathers, hence the odd coloured plumage unlike their usual spring finery. In this painting Emma has tried to recapture the feeling of summer heat, sunlight and sleepiness.
