About the piece:
Artist Robert Buchanan created this piece to raise awareness for how deviating farming palm oil can be for the many species living in the forests in Borneo. Robert wanted to capture a look of helplessness on the face of the Orangutan and use the negative space to hint at a bleak uncertain future. A lockdown born artist driven by conservation and inspired by all of earth’s beauty. Prior to life as an artist Robert worked in the snow sports industry, travelling with it, trying to experience as much of the world as possible. The artist inside Robert was born when his ability to travel was taken away, and he was forced to recreate the beauty of the world from inside the confines of his four walls. Robert says: “our planet simply can’t survive without the forests, so it’s not only the Orangutans that will suffer. Everything living on our planet will follow. The power is in the hands of the consumer, if we all stop consuming products with palm oil the forests can regenerate. If me doing this picture means one less palm oil product is sold, it’s worth it. 10% of the profits from this original piece and prints sold will go to the Bruno Manster Foundation.

At least 50% of the proceeds from this sale will support the charitable work of David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation (DSWF) and our ground-based conservation partners across Africa and Asia.
