About the piece:
Privileged to have had the opportunity to observe the bush and its inhabitants regularly, Gabrielle’s (Gaye’s) artworks in oils, watercolour, pen and ink and graphite depict, in a representational manner, the wild animals she loves in their natural habitat. She believes that to create an awareness of the magnificence of the wildlife of Africa is one way in which the artist can contribute to its long-term conservation. Elephant Dream (III) was inspired by an image Gaye came across of elephants silhouetted against a fiery sunset which remained etched in her mind’s eye. It seemed as though the animals were floating in the dusty light as if in a mirage. She imagined the elephants to be walking dreamlike into their future as a species and the brilliant colours reflect the positive outcome of their survival.
