ARTWORK DESCRIPTION: 

“By His Side” is a pencil drawing depicting a lion and lioness resting in the noonday sun. Justin Mark simply wanted to portray a moment of calm being shared by these two powerful predators. He said: “What I have always found fascinating about lions is their sense of loyalty to their family units, and wanted to show the bond between both this pride male and one of the lionesses.”

ARTIST BIOGRAPHY:

Justin Mark has always had a great interest in both wildlife and the visual arts and combining the two has provided him with the utmost satisfaction. Justin gathers his own photo references from local zoos in Ontario and he has also travelled to Zambia for even greater inspiration. He had the opportunity to view lions in the wild, which had been one of his goals and dreams for as long as he can remember. The piece he has chosen to enter represents this most iconic species.
