About the piece:
‘Breath of the Seas’ was created from a dive expedition Irish artist Lorna Hamilton took part in, to the Cayman Islands in 2013. Lorna’s experience of seeing the complex beauty and rich colour of an undersea world was so overwhelming as an artist who always painted in muted colours and immense detail that Lorna admitted defeat and could not paint it! It was only in January 2021, that Lorna found the courage to revisit the photos she had taken and gave herself freedom to paint from her memories and imagination. An environment so vibrant and full of curiosity cannot be painted in a conventional way.
