Battle of Trafalgar

Battle of Trafalgar
Emma Bowring
About the piece:
Pigeons began to flock to Trafalgar Square before building work was even complete in the mid-1800s. They are capable of remembering both places and faces, so with feed sellers located there throughout the Victorian era onwards it’s not surprising that pigeons always returned to the square. Since the turn of the last century, however, and the changes to make it illegal to feed the pigeons, they have mostly moved on. But, as with so much of nature, I think what many people feel about the pigeons says more about them, than about pigeons.
