Avian Rock Star

Avian Rock Star
Michaelah Ariel Baburin
ARTWORK DESCRIPTION:
Confined to a small area of tropical North Queensland is the endangered and elusive Palm Cockatoo, Australia’s only “Avian Rock Star”. Michaelah explained: “The males whittle drumsticks from tree branches to use in their singing, dancing and drumming courtship rituals.” Michaelah collaborated with the photographer, Laurie Ross, to paint this larger-than-life watercolour portrait.
ARTIST BIOGRAPHY:
With a foundation in classical drawing and painting, Michaelah Baburin’s art practice is underpinned by her love for the character and beauty of Australia’s native flora and fauna, notably its birdlife. From her studio on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast, Michaelah creates isolated, larger-than-life, realistic portraits, which magnify the detail of her subjects. The idea is to capture the essence of each character and their unique beauty and give them a place to tell their own story.
