About the piece:
“Animal Love” is painted from a reference picture (by kind permission of Paul Sawford) and painted in pastels and pastel pencils on 360gsm Pastelmat paper. Artist Sandra says: “this was my first primate painting and I was approached by MONA UK to donate a painting for their charity auction as a result.” Sandra left West Sussex College of Art and Design in 1984 with a Diploma (unfortunately illness in her first year meant that she was not able to complete her degree). She began a full-time career in Accounts and only returned to painting approximately two years ago. She moved to Spain for a year and spent time in the USA developing her passion for pastels. She now lives in Somerset where she has joined several Art Societies and is soaking up techniques, tutorials and enjoying the advice and interaction from other artists on all mediums, but pastels will always be her preferred medium. Sandra is working towards her own exhibition; setting up a Patreon page and becoming a teacher are all ambitions she hopes to achieve.
At least 50% of the proceeds from this sale will support the charitable work of David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation (DSWF) and our ground-based conservation partners across Africa and Asia.
