Sarais Crawshaw – Out on a Limb

Original, Painting | 56 × 76 cm | Framed

Out of stock

Staying in a remote cottage in a Scottish glen next to a beautiful larch wood, Sarais Crawshaw was able to use a trail camera to watch the rare pine martens which visited at night. The combination of autumn colours in the wood, and the marten’s rich coats inspired this painting.

Acrylic on canvas

From childhood, Sarais was encouraged to be curious about the natural world, and has concentrated in her art on wildlife and wild places, largely in Britain. After teaching art in secondary school, Sarais has worked freelance for forty years. Her aim is to capture some of the character and behaviour of animals by close observation, and to use her research to create a story in her work. She uses a variety of media from acrylic paint to papercut, sometimes mixing media in one work.
