Jill Corless – On the Rocks

Drawing, Original | 70 × 50 cm | Framed

Out of stock

‘On the Rocks’ was drawn from Jill’s own reference photo on Ballestas Island, Peru, where a huge sea lion colony covered the rocks and frolicked with each other in the sea, or basked in the sun. Jill recollects this was an incredible experience and, if she closes her eyes, she can still hear their loud barking and the crashing of the waves!

Pastel on paper

Jill is a juried member of the International Guild of Realism, International Society of Animal Artists, Artists for Conservation and Pastel Society of America. She uses fine detail, bright warm palettes and dramatic lighting to enhance her work. She is fascinated with how much you can learn about an animal or person just by looking into their eyes. They tell joy, sadness, fear, it’s all there to be seen if you look deeply enough. If you can’t get the eyes right the entire soul of the painting is lost and Jill paints to find the soul of her subject.
