Inspired by the reverence and endangerment of tigers, Tom Symond’s oil painting ‘Gold Tiger’ portrays a majestic tiger against a charcoal and gold leaf backdrop. Unpainted areas reveal the gold background, representing the tiger’s struggle against extinction and its dual existence between reality and myth.

ARTIST BIOGRAPHY
Tom Symonds is a contemporary painter currently based in Bristol. Tom is best known for his large-scale paintings and portraiture, executed in oil paint and mixed media. His most recognisable works are characterised by their large semi-abstracted depictions of animals and figures set against abstract backgrounds. Tom’s practice is deeply process-driven, exploring how choices affect the development of a work of art. Tom deliberately exposes his artworks to the elements and various chemical processes. This results in paintings that create a striking interplay between corrosion and preservation.
