Hannah Shergold – Splashing

Original, Painting | 75 × 75 cm | Unframed

Out of stock

Depicting an elephant splashing through the water and using Golden’s High Flow acrylics, this painting was designed to leave as much to chance as possible. The liquid colours swirl and splash against each other in what some will see as play and others as aggression.

Acrylic on canvas

Hannah Shergold is a self-taught colourist working primarily in oils and acrylics. Drawing on her university degree in zoology and veterinary anatomy, she developed her unique style whilst serving as a helicopter pilot with the British Army in Kenya. Hannah uses high-flow acrylics and thick, impasto oil paint to bring an abstract, geometric element to her work. By dragging the paint through itself she embraces the ‘happy accidents’ that add layering and depth to the work, leaving much of the image to be found or filled in by the viewer’s own mind.
