January 2024, Vulpro transported 160 endangered Cape Vultures to another sanctuary on the opposite side of South Africa. It took them two years of thorough planning. Bibi was given permission to represent this hopeful project with her artwork. This mother and chick represents their chance for a prosperous future.
Smoke on paper
ARTIST BIOGRAPHY
Bibi is a South African artist who uses delicate trails of smoke to create images that reflect the fleeting beauty of wildlife, evoking a sense of wonder and mystery. She employs a candle flame to deposit smoke on paper, then meticulously scrapes, brushes and cleans to reveal her art. This delicate process involves multiple layers of smoke to build depth and requires a steady hand to prevent the paper from burning. Bibi’s smoking techniques are self taught and her unique artworks are under UV resistant, anti-glare, museum glass to ensure their longevity and brilliance.
