‘Orangutan’ is hand-carved in wild cherry wood. The sculpture aims to celebrate the elegance of this endangered animal by capturing its delicate movement and wise demeanor. The smoothness of the back reveals the character of the wood which transitions into wavy hair that frames the face, envelops the arms and lower body.

ARTIST BIOGRAPHY
Léo Pacquelet is a French artist based in Brussels. After studying fine arts Léo started to develop an interest in wood carving with his main inspirations being animal forms and wildlife. Each sculpture is like an itinerant walk during which he tracks the animal through the density of the wood. He gouges his way through the fibres, guided by sketches and clay models, using mostly traditional hand tools. With an eye for detail, Leo’s aim is to capture a certain movement, an attitude and a specific presence, where one can sense a connection with the wild.
