Every fall, monarch butterflies migrate to the Pacific Grove Monarch Sanctuary in California. When the artist Safiya Nguyen visited the site, she was in awe of the thousands of butterflies clustered together, fluttering to warm up. This painting depicts the monarchs warming up to fly and hopefully draws awareness of this endangered species.
