Anik McGrory – Rhinoceros Dreams

Original, Painting | 76 × 48 cm | Framed

Out of stock

This artwork was inspired by the time Anik McGrory spent volunteering with a rhinoceros rehabilitation organisation in South Africa. One day she saw a group of teenage rhinos playing together in the sun after a rainstorm, they felt to be completely carefree and she imagined a day in the past or the future when this might occur in the wild.

Watercolour on paper

Anik McGrory works with a lively line and loose bright watercolour, making forays into gouache and oil. She especially loves painting from life and working with wildlife subjects. Her background in illustration and writing brings a strong foundation in drawing and often a narrative tone. She studied art and biology at Georgetown University and illustration at Rhode Island School of Design. Anik loves sitting with her sketchbook and paint box studying light bouncing off water, or the exact value of shade falling on marsh grasses, and she revels in feeling interactive with wildlife when she’s sitting quietly in nature.
