ABOUT THE ARTWORK
A fragmented tiger moves through a dark forest, where muted greens contrast with the animal’s vivid orange form. Illuminated by gold light, it emerges from a landscape suspended between the mind and reality. Two tigers inhabit the scene: one alert and confronting the viewer, the other resting in the river beyond. Together they suggest different states of being, watchfulness and repose, vulnerability and resilience. Highlighting the tiger’s precarious existence as both living animal, cultural myth, and target of human exploitation.

ABOUT THE ARTIST
Tom Symonds is a Bristol-based painter exploring psychological and emotional states through symbolic animal imagery. His works merge East Asian influences with ecological concerns, drawing from natural history, dream logic, and personal mythology. A finalist in Wildlife Artist of the Year and other national exhibitions, his work invites reflection on the boundary between myth and reality, emotional states and identity.
