Description

About the piece:
Shannon describes her painting: “A flock of urban pigeons vie for position on a lamp post. The coveted lamppost overlooks both a parkland stream, and grocery store parking lot, making it prime pigeon real estate.” Shannon Reynolds is a full-time painter and portraitist. Her paintings have been exhibited in public galleries and are in private and corporate collections across North America and the UK. Shannon’s portraits have been commissioned privately and for the corporate boardroom as well as for exhibitions of contemporary portraiture, notably the series face|LIFT at the Kitchener Waterloo Art Gallery. She was a winning participant in the Canadian production of Star Portraits. Born in Toronto to artist/illustrator parents, Shannon is a graduate of the University of Waterloo’s Fine Arts program and also has a Masters degree in English Literature. Today Shannon lives in downtown Kitchener where she works from her third-floor studio in a Victorian house she’s slowly renovating with her husband. Shannon says: “Sometimes, to escape the confines of studio portraiture, I turn my eye to the wildlife subjects I come across in my travels and just outside my back door. The resulting paintings still have a portraitist’s attention to specificity, but a greater allowance for evoking the shifting light of the landscape. I enjoy painting the wildlife subjects I encounter in my urban environment and the chance to illustrate relationships among species–both native and introduced. I hope some of these paintings present subtle allegories about contemporary life as our urban and wild spaces collide and competition for scarce resources ensues.”

At least 50% of the proceeds from this sale will support the charitable work of David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation (DSWF) and our ground-based conservation partners across Africa and Asia.
