About the piece:
An estimated 30-60 million bison roamed North America, mostly on the great plains. Today the number of bison in the US is about 500,000. By the 1950s, wolves were virtually eradicated from the lower 48 states. The grey wolf was among the first species protected under the Endangered Species Act after it was passed in 1973. Fortunately, today you can experience these remarkable animals wandering freely in Yellowstone National Park. The conservation of these animals is still a fragile balance with the continued effort to maintain their preservation in Yellowstone and other areas in the US.
