About the piece:
Emma has realised that using art to save wildlife is an extremely important motivator to keep painting. The migration of the wildebeests is one of the greatest spectacles in the natural world. As well as the physical power, noise and smell, there are all the emotions on display – blind determination, fear, heartbreak and triumph. This painting captures one brief, but perilous moment in a long endeavour to follow the rains to pastures new.
Emma is an award-winning wildlife artist working predominantly in oils. Combining vivid colours with bold brush strokes, alongside more intricate detail, she brings her passion for animals and birds to life. Wildlife is inextricably linked to its environment and other species, so she uses colour to bring the subject and background together, reminding us how everything should be interconnected. Inspired by the natural world and the charities who strive to protect it, she is motivated to support vital conservation projects through the sales of her work. She has been a Highly Commended Finalist (DSWF WAY 2020 & 2021), and this year was thrilled to be awarded Animal Behaviour Category Winner – DSWF Wildlife Artist of the Year 2022, with her dynamic painting of a male orangutan.
Our sincere thanks go to Emma for donating 50% of the proceeds from this sale which will support the charitable work of the Foundation’s ground-based conservation partners across Africa and Asia.
