Over the Forth No 1 – David Shepherd CBE

£650

Medium:  No 1/850 Limited Edition Print – Paper

Dimensions: 78 x 54cm

Originally owned by David Shepherd CBE, this print is rather special.  This print depicts a magnificent LNER A2 Pacific steam engine crossing the Forth Bridge in Edinburgh, which towards the end of its life took on humble freight duties. Everything about this massive bridge is impressive: it took 5,000 men 7 years to build, it is over 1.5 miles long and consists of 145 acres of steel work which has to be painted every 4 years by 20 men, using 17 tons of paint each time. The last rivet (of which there are an estimated 6.5 million) was placed in position by HRH The Prince of Wales in March 1890. This is a unique and extremely rare print.
