“As spring rejuvenates the natural world with life and abundance, flowers blossom and animals and insects reproduce in a magnificent plethora of colour and new life. The natural world is transformed. Butterflies are a symbol of transformation, peace, hope and freedom, while the sunflower evokes sentiments of happiness, positivity and optimism. I wanted to explore these themes in a species far smaller than my typical subjects and with a composition that captures the eye with vibrant colour and a meticulous attention to detail.” – Matthew Polluk

Artist Bio

Matthew Polluk is self taught artist who has carried his childhood passion for animals and the natural world into the fervent creation of wildlife art that he is recognised for today. He holds a strong passion for giving back to the natural world that inspires his art and uses his art to raise awareness for wildlife conservation. His paintings are often characterised by his use of a minimal colour palette – typically black, white and gold – and his use of metallic paints and precious materials, such as 24ct pure gold leaf, has become a trademark feature in his wildlife art.

With a taste for bold and emphatic imagery, an obsession for fine detail, and a mild touch of artistic perfectionism, Matthew creates hyper-realistic works of art that depict the animals he loves in all shapes and sizes. His typical drawings use composition and perspective to create a striking image that instantly captivates the viewer and draws them in to the subject; inviting them to explore the details within the shape and textures that differentiate its species.

‘Into the Wild’
Belgravia in Bloom 2023
In partnership with Catherine Best
22ND– 29TH May

Belgravia in Bloom is an annual floral art show, coinciding with the RHS Chelsea Flower Show each May. Local shops and brands are invited to showcase their creative skills, get into the seasonal spirit, and compete against one another for the best shopfront display – on Elizabeth Street – one of the prettiest streets in London. To celebrate this year’s theme of ‘Into the Wild’, David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation (DSWF) is delighted to be partnering with the internationally acclaimed luxury jewellery brand, Catherine Best, for this year’s event.

Hosted from Monday 22nd of May to Monday, 29th of May, at their new Elizabeth Street store, visitors can join in celebrating this annual event whilst browsing and purchasing our unique jewellery and wildlife artwork from DSWF’s talented artist community.

The Exhibition is a testament to the efforts of 10 incredible artists, each creating a piece in celebration of ‘Into the Wild’. Artwork from the exhibition is available for purchase with 50% going towards DSWF’s wildlife conservation work, alongside a portion from all sales of Catherine Best jewellery in-store during the week.
