Soccer Players Shine Spotlight on Tiger Conservation

Staff at an international school in Thailand helped highlight DSWF’s work to fight illegal wildlife crime at their annual friendly football tournament.

The annual competition at The Regent’s School in Bangkok has become a firm fixture in the local footballing calendar. This year it was attended by former England international football star Gary Stevens.

The eight staff teams battled it out for the winner’s trophy – but Bangkok’s NIST International School snatched victory, with a 4-1 win over runners-up Bromsgrove International School. The

Regent’s School finished in third place after a tense penalty shoot-out.

During the soccer tournament the Regent’s School promoted the work of the David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation which, amongst other projects, spreads awareness of the problems of illegal wildlife crime in Asia.

DSWF is funding an important tiger project in central Thailand where one of the last remaining populations of Indo-Chinese tigers is found. It’s thought around 200 wild tigers survive in the forests there.

Working with Freeland, DSWF is supporting the professional development and training of anti-poaching techniques for park rangers and helping raise awareness in local communities about the importance of conserving wild tigers.
