Mutaanzi-David turns 3 years old!

David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation

Mutaanzi David was the first wild-born calf to an orphan elephant in Zambia, a truly historic moment for us and our ground-based conservation partners, Game Rangers International (GRI).

Named in honour of our late founder, David Shepherd CBE, Mutaanzi is currently living wild and free with his mother Chamilandu. Lovingly known as Chamma, she arrived at GRI’s Elephant Orphanage Project in 2007 and for more than six months, mother and calf have been moving freely in the Kafue National Park.

GRI’s keepers were, however, lucky enough to catch this now rare sight of Chamma and Mutaanzi on his third birthday.

A very special moment indeed and one that reinforces the importance of protecting not only our planet’s precious wildlife but also the wild spaces they inhabit.
