Karen Botha appointed as new DSWF chief executive

The David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation is delighted to welcome Karen Botha as its new Chief Executive.

Karen has over 15 years of experience in leading and managing businesses within both the private and cultural sector and has enjoyed significant success in driving and growing the commercial and operational aspects of businesses, resulting in increased income generation and portfolio growth.

Having grown up in Zimbabwe, Karen has always been passionate about the conservation of wildlife, issues surrounding the illegal wildlife trade and engagement with communities that neighbour areas experiencing prolific human-wildlife conflict.  Using the skills she gained in business Karen was keen to take up a challenging role with an NGO specializing in wildlife and habitat conservation work.

In 2016 she was appointed Head of Enterprise and Partnerships at the Born Free Foundation before taking up her post as Chief Executive at the David Shepherd Foundation.

Karen says “I am looking forward to working with an incredibly dynamic and talented team here at DSWF, supported brilliantly by our members, donors and partners around the world.  We are indeed fortunate to have such a strong relationship with them, a testament to our Founder, David Shepherd, and to the incredible successes achieved on the ground where our teams and partners work with wildlife and communities.”
