Bringing wild tigers to the Isle of Arran

Three eager students from the Isle of Arran in western Scotland have been showing their love for tigers despite being well over 5,000 miles from the species’ wild habitat.

On 15 November, Iona Summer and her friends Marsha and Charli held a fundraising stall at Arran High School’s Christmas Fayre to raise funds for TigerTime.

Creating tiger themed art pieces and bookmarks, origami tiger faces and cakes to sell to Christmas shoppers, the trio’s efforts raised a wonderful £75.89.

“We also gave out fact and activity sheets to raise awareness of the threats facing tigers,” explained Iona. “I think more people now are aware that tiger poaching is going on.”

“It has been fantastic to see Iona and her friends’ enthusiasm for supporting the conservation of tigers in the wild,” said Vicky Flynn, TigerTime’s campaign manager. “Despite the huge distance between the Isle of Arran and the tigers’ wild habitat these girls have made a massive effort to raise funds to help ensure that this fantastic cat is protected.”

With as few as 3,000 tigers left in the wild every penny counts for this threatened species and as Iona rightly concludes “More people should be like me and save the tigers.”
