At the 18th Conference of the Parties to CITES, DSWF are supporting the document submitted by the African Elephant Coalition calling for the closure of all remaining domestic ivory markets as a matter or urgency. You can find submission here.
Following a historic vote on Sunday, 46 Governments in attendees at the 18th Conference of the parties to CITES voiced their unequivocal support to end the barbaric trade of live elephants to international locations. The vote, if not re-opened, will prevent African elephants being torn away from their families and exported to zoos and circuses around the world.
Despite the critical victory for wild elephants on Sunday, the European Union and the US intend to overturn the vote and reopen discussions to continue trade during the final plenary session.
